A public consultation session has been scheduled on the future of the Archival Studies stream of the Joint Master's Program in the Department of History at the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg.

Please see below for details on the consultation that will take
place on *Monday, July 13, 2020 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm Central Standard Time*.

Registration for the Zoom session is required by *Thursday, July 9, 2020*.
Please RSVP to heather.ayres@umanitoba.ca if you would like to participate
or if you have any questions about the consultation.

The Association for Manitoba Archives (AMA) has campaigned for broader
consultation since changes to the Archival Studies program at the
University of Manitoba were first proposed in 2017.

The external organizers of the consultation have been kind enough to share
in advance the questions that will be posed to participants:

1. Looking forward 20 years, what role will archivists play? What will an
archivist do? Why types of things will they be involved in?

2. What skills and/or capabilities need to be developed to meet future
roles?

3. What additional skills, knowledge or capabilities need to be developed
to meet the goals of a) equity, diversity, and inclusivity and b)
Indigenous engagement, reconciliation and decolonization?

4. What could be done to make the program even more inviting for
prospective students?

While these questions are quite general, we hope they will inspire a
conversation that addresses the particular needs and current situation of
the Archival Studies program at the University of Manitoba. We invite those
interested in participating to consider as well the following questions
when preparing for the session:

1. What is your overall impression of the strengths and weaknesses of the
University of Manitoba's Archival Studies program?

2. What would you advise the Department of History and the University to do
to improve the program?

The AMA encourages anyone with an interest in the future of archival
education in Canada to participate in this session.
