The formal training session will end around 3:30 PM but session facilitators will remain in the computer lab until 4:30 PM so that attendees have the opportunity to ask questions and continue working in MAIN with technical support after the session. If attendees have a finding aid from their repository that they’d like to enter into MAIN, they are encouraged to bring a description with them to work on during the session. Otherwise, practice descriptions can be created during the session and deleted by the end of the session.
We are aiming to hold an Advanced MAIN-AtoM session in the coming year but those who are interested in attending that session will be required to have attended a Beginner MAIN session.
Who should attend
We encourage AMA institutional users who are new to MAIN, as well as those who already work in MAIN but need a refresher, to sign up. Users of MAIN who have previously taken training using earlier versions of AtoM may also be interested in signing up to update their skills and learn more about features in AtoM 2.4.1.
What is needed for the session
Participants will need access to a MAIN account for the session. Participants with existing accounts in MAIN should have or know their login credentials for the session. Temporary accounts may be provided to participants who are not part of an AMA-accredited institution if requested. Participants should also have a general understanding of archival principles of arrangement and description, including knowledge of Rules for Archival Description.
What will be provided
Training guides will be provided to participants during the session. These documents will further be publicly available through the AMA website. Coffee and refreshments will also be offered during the session.
The session is free, but we encourage attendees to make a donation to the Association for Manitoba Archives fund in lieu of paying for registration.
