Digitization Workshop

Workshop Description:

This one-day workshop will lead participants through the process of planning and implementing a successful archival digitization project. Topics to be covered include: project planning, the purposes of digitization, equipment and migration options, scanning standards and procedures, metadata and description, caring for your new digital files, and providing access to digitized materials.

Presenters:  Jordan Bass, Elizabeth-Anne Johnson, Brett Lougheed, and Gloria Romaniuk

Jordan Bass is the Medical Archivist (Academic) at the University of Manitoba College of Medicine Archives and the Vice-President of the Association for Canadian Archivists (ACA). He has experience working with many types of digital archival systems, from in-house to international platforms.

Elizabeth-Anne Johnson is a Digital Archives Assistant at the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collection who has experience planning digitization projects. She is currently enrolled in the University of Manitoba’s Archival Studies program and is writing her thesis on digital archival description.

Brett Lougheed is the University Archivist/Digital Curator at the University of Winnipeg Archives and Records Centre. He has managed multiple digitization projects and has worked on the initial planning and development through to implementation of digital asset management systems.

Gloria Romaniuk is the Archivist for both the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg Archives, and the Diocese of Rupert’s Land Archives. She has worked collaboratively with other archival institutions on digitization projects and has experience providing access to digitized records through multiple outlets.
