Virtual Meetup for Community Archivists & Heritage Workers

Attention rural and northern members and lone arrangers! You are invited!

Description: A regular online meetup for Manitobans caring for the archives and history of their community. We come together to share experiences, inspire and encourage each other. This meetup is a pilot facilitated by AMA Advisor, Sarah Story.

Who: Lone arrangers, rural and northern heritage workers, community members or volunteers working with collections, and archivists of small archives feeling isolated or in need of a support network.

Why: We share a wealth of collective knowledge and experience. No matter our job titles or formal training, each of us brings firsthand insight and practical solutions to the challenges we all encounter. What one archivist has learned through experience may be exactly what another needs in a similar situation. And for those working alone, having a community to exchange ideas with and seek advice from can make all the difference. Let’s come together to share our stories, strategies, and tools—and to learn from and support one another as fellow archivists!

Where: Online, bi-monthly (January, March, May, July, September, November)

When: This meetup is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st at 1pm CST.

Cost: Free and open to AMA members*

Access Note: You will need a working computer, a camera and audio on your computer, and decent connectivity to join us.

This month's topic: Content Management Systems (CMS) for small archives

Register by Wednesday, May 20th at 5pm to receive the link to the discussion prior to the meetup.

2026 Manitoba Day Awards Night and Dinner (2026-05-28)

The Manitoba Day Awards is back to celebrate the excellence of Manitoba’s writers and creators and their works!

Thursday, May 28th, 2026

Doors Open: 5:30pm

Dinner: 6pm-7pm, followed by the awards ceremony at 7:15pm

Marshall McLuhan Hall, UMSU University Centre (204-65 Chancellors Circle), Fort Garry Campus

The evening is to present the winners of the Association for Manitoba Archives’ 2026 Manitoba Day Awards for works which include the significant use of Manitoba archives in their creation, including books, writing, exhibitions, films/documentaries and radio shows.

Dinner and refreshments will be provided and admission for the event is free for AMA members and the award nominees, but we request that you please register.

Free Parking is available behind the E. Dafoe Library (Parking Lot B), or for a fee in the adjacent university parkade.
