AMA Membership

If you are working with or interested in the preservation of Manitoba's documentary heritage - documents, electronic records, photographs, maps, plans, film/sound recordings - then you share an interest with the members of the Association for Manitoba Archives.



There are many benefits to becoming a member of the AMA.  These include:

Voting Rights

  • AMA membership entitles members to attend the Annual General Meeting, as well as nomination and voting rights at the AGM

Special Interest Groups

  • AMA membership entitles members to join AMA Special Interest Groups [link to SIG page] or to propose new special interest groups

AMA Services

  • Including: education and training opportunities, advisory services assistance, the AMA library and advocacy

Professional Development and Training Grants

  • These benefits are subject to availability.  Some restrictions apply.

Individual Membership

Individual membership begins on April 1 and expires on March 31 and is open to any individual interested in supporting the aims and objectives of the AMA

Institutional Membership

AMA institutional memberships begin on April 1 and expire on March 31 and are open to institutions in Manitoba who complete the accreditation process administered by the Membership/Accreditation Committee. 

Organizations that may apply to become Institutional Members are those that are:

  • are engaged in the acquisition, preservation and use of archival records;
  • have an operational mandate;
  • have committed resources;
  • a policy for public access;

The AMA has established basic criteria in seven key areas of archival care. Organizations must meet or exceed these minimum criteria to apply for Institutional Membership. The basic criteria are:

1.     Legal authority statement of purpose

2.     Designated person

3.     Sustainable funding

4.     Secure, designated space

5.     Acquisition policy

6.     Records arrangement

7.     Access policy

Fees are based on the annual archival budget, including salaries, of the institution.

Associate Membership

AMA associate members begin on April 1 and expire on March 31 and are open to organizations that do not meet the basic criteria for Institutional Membership but may hold archival collections that may be made available upon request.

Lifetime Service Members

Lifetime service membership is awarded to individual members of the AMA who have demonstrated a substantial commitment and outstanding service to the Association of Manitoba Archives and the archival community throughout their career.  Lifetime Honorary membership requires Board approval and is achieved through nomination.  For more information, please click here
