This workshop will introduce new users to the AMA’s Manitoba Archival Information Network (MAIN), an AtoM database that provides local archives with the means to publicly share their collections.  Participants will gain hands-on experience creating descriptions within MAIN as well as learning how the database works.  We will go over the following concepts:

  • The archival institution and how it allows local archives to link descriptions to their organization.
  • The authority record and how it relates to the fonds.
  • Creating and editing archival descriptions.

Members of the AMA’s Digital Initiatives Committee will also be on hand to provide guidance and answer questions about MAIN.  We will email various resources to users prior to the workshop.  The goal of these materials is to provide participants with background information on how to use the database.  We encourage all registrants to read these resources prior to the event.
